Statin treatment causes an increased risk of type 2 diabetes.
Statins may have a diabetogenic effect on humans.
This study examined the relationship between statin use and the occurrence of type 2 diabetes. Researchers conducted a meticulous meta-analysis on data obtained from several published studies. They observed that individuals who take statins had a 9% higher risk of developing diabetes mellitus. The results of this study indicate that statin-treated patients are highly susceptible to type 2 diabetes.
