The association between ultra-processed food and common pregnancy adverse outcomes: a dose-response systematic review and meta-analysis
Generous consumption of ultra-processed foods may make gestational diabetes mellitus and pre-eclampsia more likely to occur in women during pregnancy.
This study looked at the correlation between regular ingestion of ultra-processed foods and the occurrence of adverse events, such as pre-eclampsia and gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM), in pregnant women. Researchers conducted a meta-analysis on data drawn out from 54 studies that examined over a half a million men and women.
Researchers found a strong link between high dietary intake of ultra-processed foods and increased risk of gestational diabetes mellitus and pre-eclampsia in pregnant women. This meta-analysis arrived at the conclusion that a woman's love for ultra-processed foods may trigger the development of gestational diabetes mellitus and pre-eclampsia during pregnancy.
