Total Polyphenol Intake, Polyphenol Subtypes, and Prevalence of Hypertension in the CUME Cohort
Generous consumption of foods loaded with polyphenols may protect individuals from becoming hypertensive.
This study looked at the relationship between dietary intake of polyphenols and the onset of hypertension. Data on the polyphenol consumption levels and prevalence of hypertension were obtained using validated food frequency questionnaires and hospital records respectively.
Researchers discovered that high consumers of polyphenol-containing foods were less likely to suffer from hypertension. This study pointed out that encouraging the intake of foods rich in polyphenols may help reduce the incidence of hypertension globally.
