This study was conducted to ascertain the link between cigarette smoking and the subsequent development of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), including ulcerative colitis and Crohn's disease. Researchers compared the smoking habits of 96 patients with inflammatory bowel disease and 427 persons without this condition.
Researchers discovered that cigarette smoking boosted a participant's chances of developing ulcerative colitis and Crohn's disease. This study affirmed that cigarette smokers are liable to suffer from inflammatory bowel disease.
