The association of ultra-processed food consumption with adult inflammatory bowel disease risk: a systematic review and dose-response meta-analysis of 4 035 694 participants

Preference for ultra-processed foods may favor the development of inflammatory bowel disease in men and women.

This study used a meta-analytic approach to investigate the ultra-processed food consumption-inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) connection theory. Researchers sifted through data extracted from over 4 million men and women who took part in 24 studies.

Researchers found out that the odds of suffering from inflammatory bowel disease, particularly Crohn's disease, were tilted against lovers of ultra-processed foods. This study showed that indulgence in ultra-processed foods may set the stage for the development of inflammatory bowel disease in men and women.
