Smoking: A risk factor for development of low back pain in adolescents.
Low back pain is more likely to occur in adolescents who are smokers than in those who are non-smokers.
This study assessed the relationship between smoking and the likelihood of developing low back pain in adolescents. Researchers tracked data on the smoking habits and musculo-skeletal health of 502 adolescent students for 12 months.
The team of researchers found out that adolescents who smoked had higher chances of suffering from low back pain than those who were non-smokers. The results of this study show that cigarette smoking may increase an adolescent's risk of developing low back pain.
