Alcohol consumption and suicide mortality among Japanese men: the Ohsaki Study
Habitual drinking of alcohol may increase the incidence of suicide among men.
This study compared mortality rates from suicide between consumers and non-consumers of alcohol in a study population comprising of 22,804 Japanese men aged 40 to 79 years. Researchers monitored the alcohol drinking habits and mortality records of all the participants over a 7-year period.
Researchers noticed that the higher the frequency and quantity of alcohol consumed, the greater the likelihood that a man will commit suicide. Evidence from this study suggest that men who are alcohol users may be liable to die by suicide.
