Investigating the Association between Alcohol and Risk of Head and Neck Cancer in Taiwan

Generous ingestion of alcohol may fuel the development of cancer in the head and neck region.

This study clarified the association between the frequency of alcohol consumption and the incidence of head and neck cancer in Taiwan. Researchers studied the alcohol intake levels of 811 patients with head and neck cancer and 940 persons without any history of cancer.

Data analysis revealed that heavy drinkers of alcoholic beverages, particularly liquor, had greater risk of developing cancer in the head and neck region of the body, including cancer of the pharynx and larynx, than never drinkers. The findings of this study show that imbibing the habit of consuming alcohol regularly may make an individual highly likely to come down with head and neck cancer.
