Global prevalence, incidence, and outcomes of alcohol related liver diseases: a systematic review and meta-analysis

Alcohol use may be a major contributing factor to the high burden of liver disease prevalence and mortality globally.

This study analyzed the harmful effects of alcohol drinking on liver health using a meta-analytic approach. Researchers sifted through data drawn out from a pool of 372 studies.

Researchers observed that alcohol intake was responsible for a large number of morbidity and mortality from liver diseases, including cirrhosis. This study suggested that individuals who want to minimize their risk of developing and dying from liver diseases should avoid consuming alcohol.
