Association between legume intake and self-reported diabetes among adult men and women in India

The odds of avoiding diabetes may be tilted in favor of high consumers of legumes.

This study examined how high dietary ingestion of legumes influences an individual's risk of developing diabetes. Over 150,000 Indian men and women were recruited for this study, and they were assessed for their eating habits and diabetes incidence rates.

Researchers observed that higher intake of legumes resulted in lower risk of diabetes. This 2013 study of Indian men and women documented a protective association between legume consumption and diabetes.
