Legume consumption and risk of hypertension in a prospective cohort of Chinese men and women
Regular intake of legumes may help fight off hypertension.
This study determined if higher ingestion of legumes is tied to lower likelihood of having hypertension. Data from 8,758 Chinese men and women, of whom 944 eventually developed hypertension, were analyzed to estimate the risk of hypertension according to the frequency of consumption of legumes.
Researchers noticed a reduced incidence of hypertension among participants who preferred consuming generous portions of fresh and dried legumes. Evidence from this study indicate that eating more legumes may guard against the onset of hypertension.
