Coffee consumption and coronary heart disease: a mini-review.

The odds of avoiding coronary heart disease may be stacked against coffee lovers.

This study looked at the effect of fondness for coffee on the risk of coronary heart disease (CHD). Researchers sifted through data from 56 studies published between 2000 and 2014.

Data analysis revealed that habitual consumption of coffee boosted the likelihood of experiencing myocardial infarction. This negative impact on myocardial infarction risk was attributed to the coffee-inducing rise in the circulating levels of homocysteine. This study pointed out that avid consumption of coffee may be detrimental to heart health.
