Fast Food Intake Increases the Incidence of Metabolic Syndrome in Children and Adolescents: Tehran Lipid and Glucose Study

High dietary ingestion of fast foods may facilitate the onset of metabolic syndrome in children and adolescents.

This study investigated the link between the consumption of fast foods and the prevalence of metabolic syndrome in children and adolescents. Researchers reviewed the dietary and medical records of 424 Iranian children and adolescents aged 6-18 years.

The team of investigators observed that the odds of being diagnosed with metabolic syndrome was stacked against avid consumers of fast foods, such as hamburger, sausage, bologna, and fried potatoes. This study re-enforces the evidence that the love for fast foods may boost the risk of metabolic syndrome in children and adolescents.
