Breakfast Cereals and Risk of Heart Failure in the Physicians' Health Study I

Heart failure is less likely to occur among individuals who regularly consumed whole grains for breakfast.

This study determined if there is a connection between the frequency of consumption of breakfast cereals and the risk of heart failure. The research team collated and analyzed the health and dietary records of over 21,000 men and women spanning a 19.6-year period.

Researchers observed that lower risk of heart failure was associated with higher intake of whole grain breakfast cereals. The findings from this study suggest that consuming more whole grains for breakfast may be an important part of a dietary approach for the prevention of heart failure.
