Breakfast Cereals and Risk of Hypertension in the Physicians' Health Study I
Following a dietary pattern that promotes the consumption of whole grains for breakfast may help shield a man from hypertension.
This study investigated whether an association exists between the ingestion of breakfast cereals and the propensity of a man to suffer from hypertension. The dietary habits and incidence of hypertension among 13,368 men who enrolled in the Physicians' Health Study were obtained through validated food frequency questionnaires and hospital records respectively.
Researchers discovered that frequent consumers of breakfast cereals comprising of whole grains had great chances of staying free from hypertension. This study shows that adopting a habit of consuming whole grains for breakfast can substantially reduce the risk of hypertension in men.
