Higher ultra-processed food intake is associated with an increased incidence risk of cardiovascular disease: the Tehran lipid and glucose study

Greater intake of ultra-processed foods may foster the development of cardiovascular disease.

This study explored the association between indulgence in ultra-processed foods and the tendency of having cardiovascular disease. Researchers followed 2,050 Iranian men and women, monitoring their dietary habits and health for over 10 years.

Researchers noticed that the risk of developing cardiovascular disease was 68% higher among participants who ate the most amounts of ultra-processed foods than in those who refrained from consuming these types of foods. This 2024 study of Iranian men and women documented the detrimental effect of ultra-processed foods on cardiovascular health.
