Apple and pear consumption and type 2 diabetes mellitus risk: a meta-analysis of prospective cohort studies.
Type 2 diabetes is less likely to occur in individuals who regularly consume generous portions of apple and pear.
This study investigated the association between the consumption of apple and pear and the risk of developing type 2 diabetes. Researchers conducted a meta-analysis of 5 independent prospective cohort studies to analyze this association.
Researchers observed a significant reduction in type 2 diabetes risk among subjects who consumed high amounts of apples and pears. Regular intake of one serving of apple and pear per week was found to decrease the odds of type 2 diabetes by 3%. The findings of this meta-analysis show that high dietary ingestion of apple and pear may be beneficial in the prevention of type 2 diabetes.
