Use of antidepressant agents and the risk of type 2 diabetes.
Antidepressant users may have a high tendency of developing type 2 diabetes.
This study evaluated the use of antidepressant medications in relation to the likelihood of developing type 2 diabetes. Using the Texas Medicaid Prescription Claim Database, researchers collated and analyzed data on the antidepressant usage of more than 40,000 subjects for a duration of 8 years. The type 2 diabetes odds ratios of the all participants in this study were also determined.
Researchers discovered that antidepressant users had higher chances of developing type 2 diabetes than non-users of these medications. This 2012 study of American men and women documented a positive association between antidepressant use and the risk of type 2 diabetes.
