Smoking and Risk of Urolithiasis: Meta-Analysis of Observational Studies

Cigarette smoking may promote the development of stones in the kidneys, bladder, and urethra.

Urolithiasis refers to the presence of stones in different parts of the urinary tract, including the kidneys, bladder, and urethra. This study assessed if there is a link between cigarette smoking and the occurrence of urolithiasis. Researchers compiled data drawn out from 5 scientific publications. 

Researchers noticed that smokers had heightened risk of suffering from urolithiasis. The findings of this study revealed that cigarette smoking may facilitate the formation of stone in the urinary tract.
