Alcohol as a risk factor for liver cirrhosis: a systematic review and meta-analysis.
Individuals who consumed alcohol may have a higher risk of developing and dying from liver cirrhosis.
This study reviewed recent scientific literature that examined the link between alcohol drinking and liver cirrhosis development and mortality risk. Researchers collated and analyzed data extracted from 17 studies.
Data analysis revealed that alcohol consumption increased the risk of developing and dying from liver cirrhosis in men and women. This study adds to the existing evidence that support the notion that alcohol consumption is detrimental to liver health.
