Lifetime and baseline alcohol intake and risk of colon and rectal cancers in the European prospective investigation into cancer and nutrition (EPIC).
Alcohol intake may make colorectal cancer more likely to occur in an individual.
This study assessed how alcohol influences the risk of colorectal cancer. Data on the alcohol drinking habits and incidence of colorectal cancer among 478,732 men and women were obtained through questionnaires and hospital records respectively.
Researchers noted that daily intake of 15 grams of alcohol significantly increased the risk of acquiring colorectal cancer. The data from this study indicate that high consumption of alcohol may give rise to colorectal cancer in men and women.
