The dietary inflammatory index is associated with colorectal cancer in the National Institutes of Health-American Association of Retired Persons Diet and Health Study
Sticking to a pro-inflammatory diet may spur the development of colorectal cancer in middle-aged and older men and women.
This study aimed to understand the relationship between high dietary ingestion of pro-inflammatory foods and the likelihood of having colorectal cancer. The study included nearly half a million middle-aged and elderly US men and women whose dietary and medical records were reviewed over a 9-year period.
Researchers observed that greater intake of pro-inflammatory foods correlated with rising risk of colorectal cancer. This study concluded that indulgence in pro-inflammatory foods may contribute to colorectal cancer development in middle-aged and older men and women.
