Risk of Colorectal Cancer in Patients With Alcoholism: A Nationwide, Population-Based Nested Case-Control Study
Alcohol dependence (alcoholism) might be a risk factor for colorectal cancer.
This study determined whether an association exists between alcohol dependence (alcoholism) and colorectal cancer incidence. More than 180,000 Taiwanese men and women participated in this study and were assessed for their alcohol drinking habits and the occurrence of colorectal cancer.
Researchers discovered that individuals suffering from alcohol dependence had high tendency to come down with colorectal cancer. Evidence from this study indicate that alcoholism may fuel the development of colorectal cancer.
