Schizophrenia in Users and Nonusers of Cannabis. A Longitudinal Study in Stockholm County

Cannabis users may have a high propensity to develop schizophrenia.

This study determined the risk of schizophrenia between users and non-users of cannabis. Data on the cannabis usage habits and occurrence of schizophrenia were obtained using questionnaires and hospital records respectively. 

Researchers discovered that cannabis users were 4.1 times as likely to suffer from schizophrenia as non users. The results of this study demonstrate that cannabis use may increase an individual's susceptibility to schizophrenia.
