Periodontitis Is Associated with Consumption of Processed and Ultra-Processed Foods: Findings from a Population-Based Study
Adopting the habit of eating processed and ultra-processed foods regularly may put an individual on the path to developing periodontitis.
This study set out to investigate the nexus between high dietary ingestion of processed foods and the likelihood of developing periodontitis. A total of 537 Brazilians took part in this study and offered information about their food choices and dental health.
Researchers identified an unfavorable relationship between increased intake of processed and ultra-processed foods and rising incidence of periodontitis. This study further adds to the evidence supporting the harmful effect of processed foods on dental health.
