Consumption of sugar-sweetened beverages associated with increased odds of depression.

Fondness for sugar-sweetened beverages may push an individual closer to depression.

This study determined the role habitual drinking of sugar-sweetened beverages play in the onset of depression. Researchers looked at the mental health records and sugary beverage consumption habits of more than 40,000 men and women.

Researchers noted that for every sugary drink consumed, the risk of depression went up by 5%. This positive association between the intake of sugary beverages and depression was found to be stronger in women than men in this study. Data from this study indicate that lovers of sugary beverages may be highly prone to depression.
