Intake of whole grains is associated with lower risk of myocardial infarction: the Danish Diet, Cancer and Health Cohort.

Adequate intake of whole grains may improve an individual's chances of preventing myocardial infarction.

This study assessed the role high dietary intake of whole grains plays in the prevention of myocardial infarction. With the aid of validated food frequency questionnaires, researchers collected and studied data on the whole grain consumption rates of 54,871 Danish men and women between the ages of 50-64 years. The relative risk of developing myocardial infarction was evaluated in all the participants in this study.

Researchers found out that generous consumption of whole grains significantly slashed the risk of developing myocardial infarction. The results of this study demonstrate that diets rich in whole grains may help to guard against the occurrence of myocardial infarction.
