Sugar-sweetened beverages consumption is associated with worse cognitive functions in older adults: from the national health and nutrition examination survey and food patterns equivalents database

Generous intake of sugar-sweetened beverages may impair cognitive function in older adults.

This study examined the influence exerted by high dietary ingestion of sugar-sweetened beverages on cognitive function in elderly men and women.  Researchers charted sugary beverage consumption rate against cognitive performance in a cohort of older adults.

Researchers observed that frequent drinking of sugar-sweetened beverages was associated with reduced cognitive function in study participants. The results of this study showed that indulgence in sugary beverages may lead to a decline in cognitive performance in elderly men and women.
