Fruit, vegetables and prevention of cognitive decline or dementia: a systematic review of cohort studies.
Frequent consumers of vegetables may be less prone to suffer from dementia and age-associated cognitive impairment.
This study evaluated the correlation between the consumption of fruits and vegetables and the likelihood of suffering from cognitive decline and dementia. A total of 9 studies that examined 44,004 subjects were included in this meta-analysis. The team of investigators observed that regular consumption of vegetables decreased the risk of developing dementia and cognitive impairment. On the other hand, generous intake of fruits was found to have no effect on cognitive function and dementia risk in this study. The findings of this meta-analysis reveal that high dietary ingestion of vegetables can substantially reduce an individual's chances of suffering from dementia and age-associated cognitive decline.
