Fruit and vegetable consumption and cognitive decline in aging women.

High dietary intake of vegetables may help slow down the rate of cognitive decline in older women.

This study investigated fruit and vegetable intake in relation to cognitive function in aging women. A team of researchers from Harvard Medical School looked at the dietary data of 13,388 women and administered cognitive tests on all the subjects.

The researchers observed that increased consumption of diets high in vegetables decreased the rate of cognitive decline in aging women. In contrast, generous intake of fruits was found to have no significant effect on cognitive function in women in this study. The findings of this study support the hypothesis that high dietary ingestion of vegetables may help contribute positively to improving cognitive function in older women.
