Intake of sugar-sweetened beverages and weight gain: a systematic review.
High intake of sugar-sweetened beverages may promote weight gain and the development of obesity.
This study examined the effect of consistent consumption of sugar-sweetened beverages on weight gain and obesity risk. Thirty published studies were included in this meta-analysis. Researchers found out that habitual intake of sugar-sweetened beverages is positively associated with increase in body weight and obesity risk. The findings of this review reveal that frequent consumers (both adults and children) of sugar-sweetened beverages are more prone to gain more weight and develop obesity.
