Alcohol Consumption and Risk of Liver Cirrhosis: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis
Indulgence in alcohol may induce the onset of liver cirrhosis.
This study explored the relationship between alcohol use and the odds of developing liver cirrhosis using a meta-analytic approach. This meta-analysis covered data from 9 studies involving 5,505 cases of liver cirrhosis.
Researchers observed that as the rate of alcohol consumption increased, the risk of liver cirrhosis rose exponentially. This study provides further evidence that increasing intake of alcohol may be detrimental to liver health.
