Alcohol drinking and colorectal cancer in Japanese: a pooled analysis of results from five cohort studies.
Alcohol intake may put an individual at high risk of being diagnosed with colorectal cancer.
This study investigated the alcohol-colorectal cancer connection hypothesis using a meta-analytic approach. Researchers performed an in-depth meta-analysis on data obtained from 5 studies conducted in Japan.
Researchers observed that the risk of colorectal cancer rose with increase in the frequency of consumption of alcohol in men and women. Daily intake of 23 or more grams of alcohol was found to be responsible for about a quarter of the colorectal cancer cases in Japanese men. This study suggests that alcohol drinking may predispose an individual to colorectal cancer.
