Fruit and vegetable intake and risk of upper respiratory tract infection in pregnant women
Higher intake of both fruits and vegetables may help fight off upper respiratory tract infection in pregnant women.
This research work studied fruit and vegetable consumption in relation to the occurrence of upper respiratory tract infection (URTI) in pregnant women. Scientists from Boston University, USA, matched the frequency of ingestion of fruits and vegetables with the incidence of upper respiratory tract infection in a study group comprising of 1,034 pregnant women.
The team of researchers discovered that pregnant women who were consistent consumers of both fruits and vegetables were less prone to suffering from upper respiratory tract infection. This study emphasizes the important role fruits and vegetables play in the prevention of upper respiratory tract infection during pregnancy.
