Association of Allergic Diseases and Related Conditions with Dietary Fiber Intake in Korean Adults
High dietary ingestion of fiber may help thwart the development of allergic diseases, such as asthma, atopic dermatitis, and allergic rhinitis, particularly in men.
This study clarified the association between the intake of a high fiber diet and the odds of developing allergic diseases, such as asthma, allergic rhinitis, and atopic dermatitis. Researchers compared the incidence of asthma, allergic rhinitis, and atopic dermatitis among frequent and rare consumers of fiber-rich foods in a study group comprising of over 10,000 Korean men and women.
Researchers identified a protective association between high fiber diet and the occurrence of asthma, allergic rhinitis, and atopic dermatitis, especially among men. This 2021 study of Korean men and women documented that devout consumption of fiber-containing foods may help curb the onset of allergic diseases, such as asthma, atopic dermatitis, and allergic rhinitis, particularly in men.
