Blood Pressure and Sodium Intake From Snacks in Adolescents

A marked increase in blood pressure numbers is associated with habitual consumption of salty snacks in adolescents.

This study reviewed the correlation between dietary exposure to salt from snacks and the occurrence of high blood pressure in adolescents. The dietary habits and blood pressures of 1200 adolescents were assessed using validated food frequency questionnaires and trained researchers respectively.

Researchers noted that high level of consumption of salty snacks was significantly related to elevated blood pressure numbers. The data from this study indicate that dietary intake of salt from snacks may drive up the blood pressure of adolescents.
