Association between Phytochemical Index and Osteoporosis in Women: A Prospective Cohort Study in Korea

Consuming plant foods loaded with phytochemicals may help combat osteoporosis in women, particularly postmenopausal women.

This study clarified the association between high dietary exposure to phytochemicals from plant foods and the onset of osteoporosis in women. Researchers evaluated the food choices and bone mineral density of 4,600 Korean women aged 40-69 years.

Researchers observed a 16% reduction in osteoporosis risk in postmenopausal women with high intake of plant foods rich in phytochemicals. "These findings suggest that consuming phytochemical-rich foods may have a protective effect against osteoporosis in postmenopausal women, offering valuable scientific insights," the authors noted.
