Whole Grain Consumption and Breast Cancer: A Case-Control Study in Women.
Eating a plate of whole grains 8 or more times per week may help to keep breast cancer at bay.
This study evaluated the correlation between pre-illness intake of whole grains and the risk of subsequent breast cancer diagnosis. Data from 250 breast cancer patients and 250 healthy women were assessed, including self-reported dietary history.
Researchers observed that the likelihood of having breast cancer dropped significantly in women who consumed a serving of whole grains more than 7 times per week. The results of this study show that fondness for whole grains may reduce a woman's predisposition to breast cancer.
