Inflammatory potential of diet and risk of oral and pharyngeal cancer in a large case-control study from Italy
Fans of pro-inflammatory foods may have a high tendency to suffer from oral and pharyngeal cancer.
This study looked at the inflammatory properties of a diet in relation to the development of oral and pharyngeal cancer. With the aid validated food frequency questionnaires, researchers collated data on the dietary choices of 3,438 Italian men and women. The oral and pharyngeal cancer diagnosis status of each participant was also determined.
Researchers detected a trend of increasing prevalence of oral and pharyngeal cancer among avid consumers of pro-inflammatory foods. This study demonstrated that preference for pro-inflammatory foods may promote the development of oral and pharyngeal cancer in men and women.
