Increased consumption of fruit and vegetables for the primary prevention of cardiovascular diseases.

Habitual consumption of fruits and vegetables may help to fend off cardiovascular diseases.

This study evaluated the intake of fruits and vegetables in relation to the prevention of cardiovascular diseases using a meta-analytic approach. Ten randomized controlled trials (RCT) involving a total of 1,730 volunteers were included in this meta-analysis.

The team of experts found out that high consumers of fruits and vegetables had less chances of developing cardiovascular diseases compared to individuals with low intake or who completely avoided fruits and vegetables. The results of this study indicate that fruits and vegetables may contribute positively to the prevention of cardiovascular diseases.
