Dietary Cholesterol Intake and Risk of Gestational Diabetes Mellitus: A Meta-Analysis of Observational Studies

Avid consumption of foods loaded with cholesterol may trigger the onset of gestational diabetes mellitus.

This study investigated the hypothesis that heavy dietary intake of cholesterol-rich foods can put a woman at high risk of developing gestational diabetes mellitus with the aid of a meta-analytic approach. Researchers studied data compiled from 3,237 women with gestational diabetes mellitus and 30,123 females without the condition who volunteered for 9 different studies.

Researchers observed that women on high cholesterol diet faced increased risk of suffering from gestational diabetes mellitus. This meta-analysis concluded that generous consumption of cholesterol-containing foods may make a woman more likely to come down with gestational diabetes mellitus.
