Diabetes may elevate the risk of developing cancer.
This research work investigated the relationship between diabetes and cancer incidence. Researchers conducted comprehensive meta-analyses on several studies. They observed that diabetes may lower prostate cancer but also may elevated total, breast, endometrium, bladder, liver, pancreas, and colorectum cancer development risk.
This analysis suggested that several factors, such as obesity, smoking, hyperinsulinemia, physical inactivity, insulin resistance, secondary hyperglycaemia, and diabetes treatment and drugs, such as metformin, contributed positively in promoting or preventing cancer development. The result of this analysis further adds to the growing body of evidence that linked diabetes to increased cancer risk.
