Binge Drinking and Risk of Breast Cancer: Results From the SUN ('Seguimiento Universidad De Navarra') Project
Binge drinking may increase a woman's chances of developing breast cancer.
This study evaluated the risk of breast cancer present among women with a history of binge drinking. Researchers studied information on the alcohol drinking habits of 9,577 women whose health were followed for 11.8 years.
Researchers discovered that binge drinkers tend to have a high probability of developing breast cancer. A 2-fold increase in the risk of breast cancer was found among premenopausal women who regularly engaged in binge drinking. The data from this study show that binge drinking may promote the development of breast cancer.
