Sugar-sweetened beverages and periodontal disease: A systematic review

Generous drinking of sugar-sweetened beverages may give rise to periodontal disease.

This study explored the risk of periodontal disease among sugar-sweetened beverage consumers using a meta-analytic approach. This meta-analysis covered data from 10 different studies.

A trend towards high incidence of periodontal disease was observed among frequent consumers of sugary beverages in this study. Data from this study indicate that people fond of drinking sugar-sweetened beverages are liable to suffer from periodontal disease.
