Prospective study of dietary fiber, whole grain foods, and small intestinal cancer
Consistent ingestion of fiber from whole grains may help halt the development of cancerous cells and tumors in the small intestine.
This research work studied how high fiber diet influences the risk of developing cancer of the small intestine (bowel). A total of 492,321 US men and women participated in this study and provided information related to their diet and health via questionnaires.
Researchers identified a protective association between habitual consumption of fiber from whole grains, and cancer of the small bowel. This study concluded that following a high whole grain diet could lower the likelihood of having cancer of the small intestine.
