Fresh fruit intake in pregnancy and association with gestational diabetes mellitus: A prospective cohort study
Strict adherence to a diet heavy on fresh fruits may help curb the onset of gestational diabetes in pregnant women.
This study looked at the frequency of occurrence of gestational diabetes mellitus among pregnant women on high fruit diet. Researchers matched fresh fruit intake levels with the incidence of gestational diabetes in a study population comprising of 3,300 pregnant women from China.
Researchers found out that the probability of receiving a diagnosis of gestational diabetes was low among participants at the top of the fresh fruit consumption ladder. The findings of this study revealed that higher ingestion of fresh fruits may lower the risk of gestational diabetes in pregnant women.
