Plant-Based Dietary Patterns and Incident Diabetes in the Atherosclerosis Risk in Communities (ARIC) Study

Adequate intake of healthy plant foods may help guard against the occurrence of diabetes mellitus.

This study was carried out to confirm the protective effect of healthy plant foods against diabetes mellitus. The study population consisted of nearly 12,000 men and women from the United States.

Researchers discovered that the more healthy plant foods participants consumed, the brighter their chances of preventing diabetes mellitus. This study further adds to the body of evidence affirming that high compliance with a plant-based diet may help hinder the development of diabetes mellitus.
