Cow's milk exposure and type I diabetes mellitus. A critical overview of the clinical literature.
Habitual dietary ingestion of cow's milk, especially during childhood, may increase the likelihood of developing type 1 diabetes.
This study examined the effect of early dietary exposure to cow's milk on the risk of type 1 diabetes using a meta-analytic approach. Researchers reviewed data and evidence obtained from relevant studies on the subject.
Researchers observed that individuals who were exposed to cow's milk before 4 months had 1.5 times higher chances of developing type 1 diabetes than those who consumed little or no cow's milk. The findings of this study reveal that high intake of cow's milk, especially during childhood, may accelerate the onset of type 1 diabetes.
