Meat consumption and risk of squamous cell carcinoma of the lung: a case-control study in Uruguayan men

Fondness for meat may lead to a spike in lung cancer risk in men.

This study focused on the association between dietary intake of meat and a man's tendency to develop lung cancer. The meat consumption habits of 300 males with lung cancer and 600 healthy men were studied over a 9-year period. 

The team of investigators discovered that men who loved eating red and processed meats, such as beef, bacon, and salted meat, had greater chances of coming down with lung cancer. The authors arrived at the conclusion that high ingestion of meat may make a man more vulnerable to having lung cancer.
