Inadequate fruit and vegetable intake in people with psychosis.

Eating less than 4 servings of fruits and vegetables daily may worsen the risk of psychosis in an individual.

This study examined the intake of fruits and vegetables in relation to the development of psychosis. Researchers looked at the dietary records of 1,286 adults aged 18-64 years who participated in the second Australian National Survey of Psychosis.

Researchers found out that approximately 74% of subjects with psychosis consumed less than 4 portions of fruits and vegetables. This study strengthens the body of evidence supporting the view that inadequate intake of fruits and vegetables may be related to increased risk of psychosis.
